73 per cent of adults opt for staycations such as seaside trips instead of a holiday abroad

According to a new study conducted by UK Saunas (www.uk-saunas.co.uk) 73% of adults are more likely to opt for staycations such as seaside trips instead of a holiday abroad as the cost of living crisis continues to bite, and Weston-super-Mare has been crowned in the top ten of most relaxing seaside town for a trip away.

The study, which analysed the number of hotels and spas in seaside towns and villages, as well as their population, also ranked locations using categories from the UK Health Index related to peacefulness and relaxation.

A wellness expert from UK Saunas has explained the benefits of taking a seaside visit: “More than 45 million adults in the UK experience anxiety and depression on any given week, but holiday goers have reported a decrease in cortisol, the stress hormone, after a trip abroad from their day-to-day lives. But for those feeling deprived of an overseas holiday due to the cost of living crisis, a trip to the seaside is an affordable opportunity for much-needed rest and relaxation.

“Studies have shown that because holidays give you an opportunity to take a break from aspects of home and work life that can be sources of anxiety, you can drastically reduce your stress levels, instead focusing on wellness and enjoying life. The benefits of this are important, as increased wellness can improve your mental health as well as fertility, and reduce weight gain and heart attack risks.”

So, if you're reading this thinking the source of stress in your life at the moment is planning that dream day, take a break and head to Weston-super-Mare!
